Wild magic surge

Tap to roll the classic d100 Wild Magic Surge table and see the effect. Reroll for the next chaotic result.

Rolled a physical d100? Type the number to look up its effect.

    How it works

This wild magic surge roller brings the classic d100 sorcerer surge table to one tap. When your Wild Magic sorcerer triggers a surge, hit the button and it rolls a d100, finds the matching entry on the table, and shows you the effect - from a self-centered fireball to turning into a potted plant. A reroll button is right there for the next surge, or for the rare result that tells you to roll again.

It doubles as a reference: if you would rather roll a physical d100, type the number into the lookup box and the matching effect appears instantly. Each effect is written as a short, plain-language summary so you can read it and adjudicate it in seconds, without flipping through the book mid-turn. The roll uses your browser cryptographic randomness for a genuinely fair d100, a small history keeps your recent surges visible, and it all runs client-side and works offline.

Example. Your sorcerer casts a spell and the DM calls for a surge. Tap roll, the d100 comes up 24, and the table lands on the 23-24 entry: your skin turns vivid blue until a Remove Curse ends it. Tap reroll on the next surge for a fresh effect.

    FAQ

What is a Wild Magic Surge?

A Wild Magic sorcerer can trigger a surge of chaotic magic when they cast a spell. The surge is resolved by rolling on a d100 table of 50 effects, ranging from harmless and silly to powerful or dangerous. This roller does that roll and shows the result for you.

When do I roll on the table?

By the standard rule, after a Wild Magic sorcerer casts a sorcerer spell of 1st level or higher, the DM can have them roll a d20; on a 1, they roll on the surge table. Some tables surge more often as a house rule. This tool handles the d100 surge roll itself once a surge happens.

    Is the roll actually random?

Yes. The d100 is drawn from your browser's cryptographic random number generator, not a predictable source, so every surge is a fair, independent roll just like a physical d100.

What does the reroll button do?

Reroll simply rolls the d100 again for a new effect. It is handy for the next surge, and for the table entry that instructs you to roll on the table again at the start of each of your turns for the next minute.

Can I look up a result from a physical die?

Yes. If you prefer rolling a real d100, type the number you rolled into the lookup box and the matching surge effect appears straight away, so the tool works as a quick reference as well as a roller.
