How it works

Enter the bill amount and a tip percentage and the calculator shows the tip, the grand total, and - if you are splitting - the amount each person owes. Use the quick chips for common tips (10, 15, 18, 20%) or type any percentage. Set how many people are sharing the bill and the per-person tip and per-person total are worked out for you, so there is no awkward mental arithmetic at the table.

Two optional rounding controls keep things tidy. "Round the total up" lifts the grand total to the next whole unit of currency; "round each person up" raises every share to a whole unit, which is handy when everyone is paying cash. Everything runs in your browser and nothing is sent to a server. The amounts are currency-agnostic, so the same tool works whether you are paying in dollars, euros, or pounds.

Example. A 60 bill with a 20% tip adds 12, for a total of 72. Split between 3 people that is 24 each. Turn on "round each person up" and each share becomes 24 with the total adjusted to match.

FAQ

How do I calculate a tip?

Multiply the bill by the tip percentage and divide by 100. A 20% tip on 60 is 60 x 20 / 100 = 12, making the total 72. Enter the bill and pick or type the percentage and the tool does this instantly.

How does the bill split work?

The tool divides the grand total (bill plus tip) by the number of people, and also shows how much of each share is tip. Increase or decrease the party size and the per-person figures update right away.

What do the rounding options do?

They round upward to a whole unit of currency. "Round the total up" applies to the combined bill plus tip; "round each person up" applies to each individual share (so the collected amount can be slightly more than the exact total). Leave both off for exact, unrounded figures.

How much should I tip?

It depends on the country and the service. In the United States 15 to 20% is common for restaurant service; many other countries tip less or round up rather than tipping a set percentage. The quick chips cover the usual range, and you can always type your own.
