How it works

The jump and fall calculator turns a Strength score into exact movement numbers. Your long jump clears a number of feet equal to your Strength when you have a running start of at least 10 feet, and half that from a standing start. Your high jump reaches 3 feet plus your Strength modifier with a running start, again halved if you jump from standing, and the tool adds the extra reach so you know what height you can actually grab.

It also handles the other direction. Falling deals 1d6 bludgeoning damage for every 10 feet you drop, capped at 20d6 at 200 feet, so enter any height and you get the dice, the average, and the worst case at a glance. Everything is worked out in your browser, so it is instant and works offline at the table.

Example. A barbarian with Strength 18 and a running start clears an 18-foot long jump and a 7-foot high jump (3 + 4), reaching about 16 feet up to grab a ledge. Drop off that ledge from 30 feet and the fall is 3d6, averaging about 10 damage.

FAQ

How far can my character jump in D&D?

With a running start of at least 10 feet, your long jump in feet equals your Strength score and your high jump equals 3 plus your Strength modifier. Without that running start, both distances are halved. Enter your Strength and toggle the running start to see the exact numbers.

How does fall damage work?

A fall deals 1d6 bludgeoning damage for every 10 feet fallen, so a 50-foot fall is 5d6. The damage is capped at 20d6, which you reach at 200 feet, and falls of less than 10 feet deal none.

Does a running start matter for jumping?

Yes. The full long and high jump distances assume a running start of at least 10 feet of movement on foot. From a standing position you cover only half the distance, rounded down, which the calculator shows when you turn the running start off.

How high can I reach at the top of a high jump?

During a high jump you can stretch your arms up to grab or touch something above you. The reach figure adds half again your height to the jump height, so a 6-foot character who jumps 7 feet can touch a point about 16 feet off the ground.
